The Senior Dog Got To Be Loved By Two Owners In His Last Weeks & Finally Left Them In Tears.

Saying goodbye to Zach

As the weeks passed, it became apparent that Henry still had a lot of life left in him, and Zach concluded that it was time to find his foster dog a permanent home. To his astonishment, he quickly began to receive other requests for adoption, one of which was from Caro Aguilar. Caro said that she knew he was meant to be in her life just as much as he knew he was meant to be in mine.

As she was on her way to pick him up, Caro made an Instagram video. In the video, she said they want to adore him for the rest of his days. And for as long as they had him, they would enjoy him. Zach also expressed his thoughts about Henry leaving him for a new home, and he said that Henry was going to go out of this world surrounded by love, which was all they could ever ask for. He also said that Henry made their lives richer while they had him, and he was about to make the lives of those who adopted him richer.

A new life with Caro

Caro adopted Henry after meeting him in person since she knew the elderly canine wouldn’t have much time left. She and her family made sure that Henry had lots of fun adventures in his last days, and they set up an Instagram account, @seniordoghenry, to share how he spent his life with the world.

Henry needed some time to get used to his new house, but just like he did with Zach, Henry showed he was still a young dog with lots of life. Caro said that he was so frightened when she first brought him home that she slept downstairs with him for the first two weeks. Henry settled into his forever home and was greatly loved by his new family. Caro said after two weeks, he simply started to bloom. On their daily walks, he began extending his distance. Caro was surprised when he managed to go about a mile without stopping.

Henry left all his loved ones.

Sadly, he, unfortunately, passed away in June. His family informed his fans of his passing in a farewell post. Caro said in the post that he passed peacefully with herself and their family by his side. She continued saying he passed in her arms and lap with love, ear rubs, boops, and loads of kisses from me and the girls.

Caro also said she was a mess, which broke her heart. He was a joy in her life that she could not explain; he brought sunshine on dark days and unconditional love every day. She knew he brought joy to so many, and her family, Henry, had all brought in light and love like we could not comprehend. Though Henry’s journey has ended, his story will continue to inspire people to open their hearts and homes to senior dogs and give them a chance to live their best life in their twilight years.

People’s interest in love is complicated. When they see a baby animal or a young one in a shelter, most do not think twice about adopting that pet right away and share their life with the new one. But when they see an older animal, people ignore them. That is also the case with dogs. Many older dogs are left waiting in shelters because people are hesitant to take on an older pet. But this story is rare, where a lucky senior dog met his truly loving owners during his last weeks.

Fateful meeting

Henry was a senior dog. At 16 years old, he had many health issues and was deaf, partially blind, and had cancerous growths on his body. However, Zach Skow, co-founder of Marley’s mutts dog rescue, took Henry with him as an end-of-life foster. And after this fateful meeting, Henry’s life transformed completely.

Zach said that he remembered the expression on Henry’s face. One could feel his pain. He also said he was a very old super senior, had some cancerous growths, and was not doing well, and Zach could hear him labor breathing and could see him shaking.

Henry’s health recovered slowly.

Initially, Zach believed Henry only had weeks or even days to live. However, after settling into his new temporary home and receiving love and kindness, Henry became a happy, playful dog. Zach said that he got better almost by the hour. And he was just totally reborn. Henry had surgery to remove his cancer, which was successful, and he continued his radical turnaround, filled with more life and joy every day.

Zach said he did this little gallop every day, and then, every day, that gallop got a little bit more rambunctious. Zach also said he thought the critical variable to Henry’s success was just part of a family. This shows pet foster care’s impact, especially on a senior dog like Henry. Without Zach’s interference, Henry would have likely been euthanized or died alone in a shelter. Instead, Zach’s love truly brought him back to life.
